Hello, I’m Morley Grainger. Welcome to my studio!

My work is said to be unique – I use fabric and stitching the way other artists use paint and sculpting media. Critics call the work conceptually very strong.

I’m happiest working in series on a particular theme as the exhibition titles indicate.

Writer and critic Fran Kenneley writes: “like America’s Judy Chicago, Morley Grainger looks at the historical and political and interprets that look with a wide range of materials. However, where Chicago is often considered as having a ‘conceptual arsenal’, the message in Grainger’s art is more subtle. She is one of few artists in Australia today working with these ideas, in this medium”.

The self-contained exhibition packages in this presentation, ten in all, tour the Australian regional art gallery and museum networks. This body of work represents fifteen years of my life!

Being a late starter I was hurrying to make up for lost time!

A professional artist’s occupation involves more than creating works for exhibition and sale. There is a role, a duty, to share the knowledge and skills gained in the course of a creative career.

Please browse through my Exhibitions, watch my Exhibition videos, a recent Interview, and read (and listen to) my life story, “Not A Still Life”.

Should you require more information or would like to comment on my work, I’d love to hear from you by email at my studio in Queensland, Australia.
